Twin Lakes

For anyone who’s felt the lure of open space, Twin Lakes is the place.

Gallup is a good 15 minutes away by car, and Albuquerque is a good two-hour drive. Solitary? Or peaceful?

Twin Lakes’ schoolteachers, who live in the teacher housing area (called a teacherage) near the elementary school, might come for both the solitude and the serenity. But they also come in the spirit of service to children who need good, dedicated educators.

Life in Twin Lakes provides a whole new perspective for anyone used to the pace of big city life. Enhancing that perspective is the community’s low cost of living and rich opportunity for experiencing outdoor adventure and local culture. Hills and trails for hiking and biking are minutes away, as is some of the best ski country in the world. The area is host to many Native American festivals throughout the year.

The people of this town of under 1,100 are brutally honest with newcomers: there’s not a lot going on in Twin Lakes, they’ll say. They’ll also say they’d like to keep it that way.
